In a new interview, CNN’s chief investigative correspondent Michael Duval said he thought “this was a really important piece, a very high-profile piece, of content.”
The CNN interview with Duvalt aired Wednesday night on CNN.
Duvalls first report on a Trump administration investigation into whether Trump campaign officials colluded with Russia during the 2016 presidential election, which he said was a key piece of the story.
The CNN interview was a major news event during the campaign season, and was watched by millions of viewers across the globe.CNN’s report included a detailed description of the investigative process that led to the investigation.
“It’s a very complex and nuanced investigation, and we have to work hard at it.
The president has made clear that the investigation is ongoing, but there is a lot more work to do,” Duvalds first report said.”
And so, I’m not in a position to comment on that.
I think we all understand that.”
Duvald’s second report, published the next day, was much more definitive.CNN said that the U.S. intelligence community was examining a trove of emails that appear to be duplicates of Clinton campaign communications.
CNN also said that “intelligence officials have said they believe the emails are genuine” and that they were sent from a “top-secret server” used by the Clinton campaign.
The report also said there was evidence that the FBI and the Department of Justice have opened a criminal investigation into potential coordination between Russia and the Trump campaign.
Duvals report was critical of the Trump administration’s response to the allegations.
Duval called the president’s response “overwhelming” and said the president did not respond “in a manner that I could think of.”
Duval’s second investigation was based on a June 2016 meeting between the Trump National Security Advisor Michael Flynn and a Russian lawyer who said that she had damaging information about Hillary Clinton.
Flynn was forced to resign as national security adviser in February.
